Google is back in court – and this time, it’s about allegedly tracking users even after they said ‘no thanks’. A federal judge recently ruled a class action lawsuit accusing Google of collecting personal data despite users disabling tracking settings can move forward. A jury trial is now scheduled to begin August 18, 2025.
So why should you care?
If you’ve used Google’s search engine or an Android phone and thought turning off tracking actually stopped the tracking…it might not have. The lawsuit claims Google kept collecting and profiting off your data, leading to targeted ads not necessarily targeted to you.
What's the lawsuit about?
This isn't Google's first rodeo either. The company recently agreed to delete billions of data records to settle a separate lawsuit over tracking users in Chrome's private "incognito" mode.
Why this matters:
There’s potential for a class action payout if this case settles. And class action deadlines can be short – so staying informed is your best bet if you want to get what you’re owed.
